What is Banner 9?
Banner is a software application that is designed specifically for use at higher education institutions. Banner 9 is an upgrade, and a complete overhaul, to the current Banner system (Banner 8 INB). When it is complete, everything from Banner INB will be part of a new integrated modern system. The Banner 9 upgrade is less browser dependent, mobile friendly and accessible for users who use assistive technology such as screen readers. It brings the old Banner INB into the modern web environment.
What are Administrative Applications?
Banner 9 Administrative Applications is the component of Banner 9 that we are currently working on implementing. Administrative Applications are the replacement for Internet Native Banner (INB). These are new enhanced web based forms which will ultimately replace INB.
Why do we have to upgrade?We always want to stay current with our systems, and Banner 9 will provide many enhancements which will improve the experience for Students, Faculty and Staff. We have to upgrade to the Administrative Application now because Ellucian will end all support for INB as of December 2018.
What has changed in Banner 9 Administrative Applications ?The new Administrative Applications are delivered to you through your native browser instead of in a separate plug in. The pages will have all the same information, but presented in a new improved format. Additionally all pages will be fully accessible to assistive technology. Some of the navigation on a page does change with this upgrade but all of the functionality remains.
What stays the same?The seven-character form names remain unchanged. Your security access will also remain the same as it was in INB. Lastly all of the data behind the forms is the same. The Banner 9 Administrative Application update ONLY updates the interface to the data, not the underlying tables, processes, or data.
When is Banner 9 coming?Banner 9 work has been going on for some time now. Administrative Applications are scheduled to go live on July 22, 2018.
Does that mean Banner 8 INB is going away?
We will have both Banner 8 INB forms and Banner 9 Administrative Pages up for a short time period. We are strongly encouraging Enrollment Services Offices to no longer utilize Banner 8 INB forms by October 1, 2018. Banner 8 INB forms will no longer be available after November 30, 2018.
What is Application Navigator?
Application Navigator, which is new with Banner 9, is the tool that allows access to both Banner 8 INB forms and Banner 9 Administrative pages.
How do I sign-in?
The Banner 9 sign in will through the Single Sign On page that is currently using your email and email password. The link can be accessed similar to current Banner at uits.kennesaw.edu/banner.
Do I have to learn all new keyboard shortcuts?
Not all new, but some of the shortcuts have changed. We have provided a document that compares keyboard shortcuts in current Banner forms to what they now are in Banner 9 pages.
What Browser should I use?
While Banner 9 Administrative Pages support all current browsers, Banner 8 forms still require the Java plugin to function. The browsers that support current Banner forms (with Java enabled) include Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox. Banner 9 pages currently work best in Google Chrome and Safari. Internet Explorer (IE) also supports Banner 9 pages, however it is slower.
Why am I getting a blank screen when trying to access Banner INB forms?
Banner 9 Administrative pages are supported by all browsers. Internet Explorer (IE) only supports internet Native Banner (INB) forms. You must use Internet Explorer (IE) to access Banner 8 INB forms.
Banner 9 Administrative Pages stopped working
The Internet browser and web server cache stores certain information to increase performance when visiting websites. There are times when cached files will cause errors in Banner web pages if the stored content is old and the application has been recently upgraded. Ellucian recommends clearing your browser cache from time to time to ensure effective productivity.
Clear Browser Cache Instructions:
Chrome: Press Control-Shift-Delete > Browsing Data > Click "Cached images and files" and "Browsing History" and "Download History" > Clear data
Firefox: Press Control-Shift-Delete > Click "Cache" and "Browsing & Download History" > Clear Now
IE (Internet Explorer):
Press Control-Shift-Delete > Click Temporary Internet Files and website files > Delete Also click Menu > Internet Options > General tab > Browsing History > Settings "Check for newer versions of stored pages" should be set to "Every visit to the page".
What if my form/page is not available in Banner 9?
There are very few forms that are available in Banner 8, but not in Banner 9 Admin pages. If you utilize a form in Banner 8, which is not in Banner 9, Application Navigator will automatically switch to the Banner 8 view.
Can I change my color scheme?
Ellucian has stated the following as of 8/16/17:
“Individual users cannot choose a personal color in the Banner 9 applications at this time. Personal color (theme) choices is on the backlog, but not yet scheduled for a particular release.”
Do I need Banner 9 training?
Banner 9 training is strongly encouraged. While your business practices should not have changed much, the new interface takes some getting used to. Documentation has been made available for you to have should you not be able to make a training session. More information on training sessions will be provided on the Enrollment Services Website!
Why is no data returned when using the Filter feature?
- Filters are case sensitive.
- Verify that you have selected the appropriate operator from the drop down.
- Multiple fields can be selected to narrow your results.
